AG20 - Lavender Ale

Post by Capper20 » Mon Sep 05, 2011 9:52 pm

After posting a request for some recipe help (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=43719 on a lavender beer I finally got round to making it.

Pale malt - 4302g
Torrified wheat - 100g
Lager malt - 1085g
Dark Crystal - 135g

70 minute mash at 67C

EKG - 40g @ 60 mins
Lavender - 15g @ 15 mins
Bobek - 10g @ 15 mins
Protofloc @ 10 mins
Lavender - 10g @ 0 mins

Was a bit busy so no photos apart from a quick shot of the boiled wort, very clear. The boil produced some fine smells. I left it chilling for 90 mins while doing some plumbing which made for the reallyclear wort. Usually the sample gets a bit cloudy as the proteins settle but after an hour or so it still looked the same. :)

I was aiming for a 25L length at 1.051 but got 23L at 1.058 and didn't bother diluting down.

Added a sachet of US-05 and it is now bubbling every 2 seconds and the yeast head is thick. Looking forward to having a taste and also being able to wacth TV in silence (fermenter in lounge as garage is still too hot).

Neil's Yard Remedies in Guildford. Not sure if they have them up north. There are 2 kinds. Aromatic and edible. Get the latter. £2ish for 25g. The fermenting beer tastes too strong but it will calm down.
