Spitfire - Roasted flavour?
I had a bottle of Sherpherd Neame Spitfire yesterday and was surprised to get a strong roasted flavour off it? It reminded me of the the roasted barley or chocolate malt flavour you get off a stout. Never noticed this with Spitfire before. Could it be the crystal that contributes this flavour?
Re: Spitfire - Roasted flavour?
Interestingly, there was a thread sometime ago (someone may know where) which talked about the recipe for Spitfire. The poster had asked Sheppard Neame about Spitfire and was advised that it consisted of pale, crystal and syrup (can't recall the exact proportions now); amber wasn't mentioned. Personally, whilst I don't get to drink anything by SN often, I've not noticed a roasted note in their beers myself.
