Lid on tight for mash?
Lid on tight for mash?
Do you guy''s who BIAB put a lid on tightly to keep in the heat whilst mashing? Or will it be ok on loosely if well insulated? My vessel is a 60L plastic bucket.

Hi
Tight would keep the heat in a bit better but as long as your insulation is thick enough and you cover the lid too you shouldn't have a problem. My lid isn't that tight but with a quilt wrapped around my pot and covering the top I only lose 1 or 2 degrees max
Cheers Tom

Definitely lid on tight for the mash to retain heat and on while bringing up to the boil. Once boil is reached the lid comes off.
