Re: Sorachi Wheat
I did an all sorachi ace pale a couple of brews ago with a very similar hop bill but no dry hopping. It turned out not a bad pint just different lots of bubblegum flavour but not much lemon so you might want to add a little cascade if it's the lemon flavour your after

Re: Sorachi Wheat
The beer will be an American style wheat beer, not the usual European wheat beer where the yeast flavor is wanted.
The recipe's looks very simular ,personally i would combine the 10 and 15 minutes together and the 5 and zero minutes together.
10 grams for 90,40 grams for 15 and 50 grames for flame out or 80deg steep

Re: Sorachi Wheat
gone from having mega good effiency 86% + with warminsters and first 19-20kg of bairds. to very poor. going off the batch calc on here. i did exactly what it said i changed the hop loss to 5 litres as 100 grams of hops in 18 litres is a lot and my hop stopper is shit. and still i only ended up with 15litres of beer @ 1041 instead of 18 litres @ 1044
roughly 55% effiency its going worse whats happening?

Are you mixing up mash efficiency with brewhouse efficiency?alfie09 wrote:gone from having mega good effiency 86% + with warminsters and first 19-20kg of bairds. to very poor. going off the batch calc on here. i did exactly what it said i changed the hop loss to 5 litres as 100 grams of hops in 18 litres is a lot and my hop stopper is shit. and still i only ended up with 15litres of beer @ 1041 instead of 18 litres @ 1044

You can squeeze the hops gently to get more wort out.
Re: Sorachi Wheat
yes suppose i am really was a little pissed when writing that i have a head like a banging drum today aww!
Re: Sorachi Wheat
Brew now on.
Sorrachi Ace has a very unusual smell, like coconut ,not the lemongrass that has been suggested.
Perhaps I should rename the beer Coconut Wheat.

Re: Sorachi Wheat
Peronally I think sorachi ace needs a light touch. I brewed my house beer (lemon-rosemary blonde) using S A to about 20 IBUs and was very pleased with the results. The next time I brew it I plan on not using any actual lemon to see how that tastes.
I'm just here for the beer.
Re: Sorachi Wheat
Just racked to secondary to dry hop.
Sorachi Ace is certainly a distinctive hop.
Tastes like Malibu.
