AG#1 - Mysterio SNPA (BIAB)

Post by Goulders » Sat Nov 12, 2011 5:44 pm

I like my Fullers Beer and want to do GW's London Pride. However, that's a 90 min mash/boil so went with the SNPA as I like that beer too. Day went much easier than planned, especially as kids were around and wife was out.

Water previously treated so topped up the boiler to around 35l. Brewmate and Beersmith saying different things, but the Brewzor Pro has some great calculators too.

Boiler warming up to strike temp. Overshot strike temp but got down to 69c and added grains. Mash temp of 66c spot on (66.1)

Bag secured

Grain shot

Mashed in and then covered up

Only lost 2c over an hour. WIll wrap up more next time
Image

There she boils and then 30g Northern Brewer hops added
Image

Half Protofloc at 15 mins to go, 30g Cascades at 10 mins, last hops shot at 1 min then whirlpooled and left 20 mins before draining into No-chill cube

Little bit of hops and trub. The Brupaks hop filter worked a treat.

Cube and will hopefully be ready to pitch yeast tomorrow afternoon sometime :D

Started mash at 10.30 and all done and cleared away by 2.30. Much easier than I thought, but then again been reading this site for nearly a year! Buffalo worked very well and I cleaned the element with some vinegar (just to cover) and half a cup of boiled water and left for 15 mins; it cleaned up very easily (just like a baby bottle steriliser!)

Not sure about efficiency. Took a reading pre-boil at 67c (1022) which corrects to 1041. Doesn't seem right to me, but will measure the OG when it has cooled down tomorrow. Just glad to get the first one in the cube. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one!

When you click the Share button in flickr do you get "Grab the HTML/BBCode" ? (I'm wondering if I get this 'cos i pay for the Flickr pro account?)

It gives you this which you paste in here:

Changed a bit so it would display here:

The other way to use Flickr is to click 'Actions' and go to 'View All Sizes' select the size you want then Right Click on the Image and Copy Image Location (I'm using Firefox browser btw) You can then Paste this between the IMG tags on the forum.

Hope that helps.

I had a look at the images over on flickr and it looks like a pretty smooth brewday for your first effort. =D>

I have heard a lot of good reports of that recipe so I am sure you will get a nice batch out of it. Keep us updated with its progress.

Cheers!

Hi, I have 2 buffalo boilers, never been happy with the filter I have. Would be interested in knowing more about the bru pack filter, where you go it from and how you fitted it etc.

Got this one. Picture doesn't do it justice. It is effectively the bottom one without the bend, and just slots in behind the tap. May feel wobbly, but didn't fall out even with whirlpool. Did the job for me anyway, before the slippery slope and ball tap etc
