, been sat in my cellar for a couple of weeks now, tryed a bottle and tasted crackin' but was a little flat, hopefully by the time Xmas comes round it will have carb'd up abit more
I left my bottles next to my chair near the fire lol. Soon carbinated and even sooner drank. Hope this year it will go nicely into the pressure barrel when it arrives from the UK sometime in the next week (flippin' expensive to get it to Norway).
Currently getting into the mood drinking the "jule øl" or xmas beers of the national brewries which are OK.
Yeah Jule øl, been a success again this year with my friends. I made it in the hope it would last until xmas day but the rate I'm going through it it won't get pssed my birthday.
Norway go all out with Jule øl (xmas beer) and replace their normal beers with the xmas stuff. They do make some good ones (and at £20 for six cans they'd best be flippin' awsome). For the cost of six beers I made 25 ltrs - and turned out to be a better mashing with proper crushed grains than with the food proessor I used to use.
This beer changes taste every other day. Started out with an orange taste, then cinnomen and now root beer-like. Wonderful.
I used your recipie but had Nottingham yeast and Saaz hops. In fact, I have a pint glass next to me while I type with "your" beer in.
I think there is a website you can buy beers from around the world. The Jule øl is OK but nothing to get excited about trust me. Just dark lagar with very little spices. I think the ah Humbug beer Witchwood do around this time is fuller. Norway tend to go all out with xmas drinks. They have Gløg in the shops now which is a spicy liquid you add to wine and heat it... very much like mulled wine. Though my blackcurrent wine was better to hve it with than the commercial grape stuff. Shame we can't add wine recipies as I have loads I made up.
Since this beer will end soon and I am forced to go for the kit cherry Belgian beer, what should my next one be? I was thinking of a stout or maybe a dark ale of some sort
Christmas day and I have emptied the barrel ha ha ha. Thanks for the recipe mate, damn great beer and just keeps getting better week by week without a headache (true sign of a good chemical-free beer).
No problem mate, glad you enjoyed it! I've only got 6 bottles left, I've given the rest away!
Labelled the bottles up this year, looked quite for saying I just printed them out on normal paper, cut them out by hang and just pritt -sticked them on!
Brewing this bad boy up again today but with a better mashing system. I know it's "spring" but in Bergen we have had some more snow so I'm not convinced we are out of winter yet so perfect for a spiced ale Besides, the gf likes this and I refuse to buy crappy Norwegian-ran monopoly beers. Yeah, Rigners and Hansa run all the bars here and mke sure microbrewries don't have a chance. Feels like a mafia circuit.
I did this last night. Ran out of gas and had to wait til i got more so was a little under on og. Just a couple of points though.
I used 2x3" cinnamon at 10 then 2 at 5 minutes. Added a little corriander as j had no all spice.... Tasted fantastic. Taste test will be end of november.

Cheers for the link to this recipe Kev, thought I would post here to revive it to remind everyone to get thinking about Xmas brews. I didn't do mine until November last year, and although nice, would have benefited from an extra month or two conditioning.
