Hey Ed,

On to the second batch now. Well, my friend is. A lot darker than the original but hop character could be pretty similar. Will have to do a side by side to be sure. Will let you know!

Either way, this recipe creates a super tasty beer and I'll be brewing it again and again regardless of its similarities to Admiral's Ale.

having a go at this next..

Weyermann Dark Munich 5.2kg 95%
Victory 280g 5%
Stryrian Goldings 50g 25ibu 60m
Stryrian Goldings 30g 0min
Cascade 20g 0min
wlp 007

Seems like St.A hops at 60m and flame out over another vessel for most of their brews. So i will be leaving out the 20 15 10 5 mins additions, and just go for a flame out whirlpool addition and steep. I wanted to do a 2xstyrian 1xcascade for the flame out, but i think 40g styrian and 20g cascade may be too much given the comments on the lighter but noticeable hop aromas.

any comments?

I don't know where you guys are with this ale, heres what I can remember from my recent St Austell visit:
100% Cornish Gold Malt, 42 IBU goldings and cascade. I have it in the back of my mind that there was 2-5% carahell, but in my notes thats where I have the proper job recipe? I wish I had drank less! In the meantime I think I may have overpitched the st austell yeast, the beer was really cloudy, but not 'bad', and now bottled seems to be taking ages to clear. I've lost the paperwork too. Bad hangover that day, you can imagine why!

I love Admirals Ale and hope to do a Munich Malt version using your recipes pretty soon, with the tribute yeast. Any further advice?
