D. Lines Lownbrau Light Blonde Special Recipe Please

Post by daveylaa » Wed Nov 30, 2011 7:01 pm

Hi

Planning my first BIAB: Dave Lines Lownbrau Light Blonde Special, if I remember the name correctly.

Does anyone have the book, I lost mine and just want this recipe please. Have searched the net and found ingredients. Now need the measures.

Lager malt = 3.4KG??
Crystal malt = 100 Grams??
Hallertau Hops = ?? 90 min boil?
Saaz hops = ?? 15 min Boil?

Also I read in BIAB forum that you need to increase the grain ratio for BIAB? By what percent would be reasonable?

Cheers

Dave

I did my first BIAB last week for a TTL and found the grain weights spot on. i.e identical to a 3 stage brew.

I got 23 litres at 1043 from a recipe to give 23 litres at 1042

Used a 15 min mashout at 78C

Cheers for That, great that you got a high SG for the same amount of grain as for a 3 stage-er!

Some of the Aussies who use BIAB reckon they get 5% better extraction than 3 stage.

I've also seen some suggest reducing the water by 5 litres then rinsing in 5 litres does even better!

Yip, Bro

Did AG full mash and sparge 5 times 2 years ago and it was great, but took 7 hours with tap water PH and sparging etc. Sold my stuff.

Now getting back into HB, so this looks like a great alternative!

Cheers

Hello Daveylaa.
I love biab minimum kit required and great beer at the end.
Still takes a while to do but i just fit it into my free days even done a few over night mashes with no worrys.
Now im starting to fart around with whirl pooling and have moved to very late hop additions as i just cant get the aroma i want.

Hi Dave
I don’t usually post published recipes, but as you have most of it correct I thought I'd check it for you in my copy of Dave Lines book. Which is a great book by the way and highly recommended. It can also be bought second hand on Amazon very cheaply. I think I paid 1p plus postage for mine.
Anyway here’s the info you requested.
Lager malt = 3.4KG?? - Should be 4.5kg
Crystal malt = 100 Grams?? - Correct.
Hallertau Hops = ?? 90 min boil? - 30g 90 min.
Saaz hops = ?? 15 min Boil? - 45g 90 min + 10g @ flame out + 10g dry hop.
Please note this is for 20L.
Hope this helps. Looks like a nice recipe. Norm
