AIPA suggestions

Post by weiht » Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:26 am

its been 2 yrs since i brewed an AIPA and was thinking of having a go at it.
OG 1.063
4kg Maris Otter
1kg Pilsner Malt
500g Munich
200g Wheat
200g Crystal 10
150g Crystal 20
180g Crystal 40

60+IBUs
60mins 20g Warrior
30mins 10g Chinook
10mins 20g Chinook
10mins 20g Citra
80c steep 15g Chinook
80c steep 30g Citra
WLP001 or US05

How does the hop bill look? I'm going to use warrior for bittering, and citra n chinook for aroma. Any dry hopping to recommend?

That looks pretty good to me, a nice selection of grains, I've not tried Chinook yet in a brew but it's coming up soon on my list. How hoppy do you like your beers? Personally I'd up the late hops a bit, maybe another 40g or so at 5 minutes or flame out but then I love over-the-top American style beers so this might be unnecessary. I'd definitely use about 2g/l dry hops, Citra would be nice and I'm sure Chinook would too. For my taste I like to add a bit of sugar to the boil with something like this to dry out the final beer a little, I find all those fruity hops leave a beer a bit too sweet at this kind of strength, maybe 300g or so would dry it out enough without leaving it too thin.

Let us know what you go with and how it turns out,

L
