Dalex or Stainless Taps?
Dalex or Stainless Taps?
I've priced up getting some taps and stuff online. I've found a German company that can supply taps with everything that I need for around £90 for two taps, 2 sets of disconnects and all the required fittings (such as shank, beer nut, etc.) and a party tap. for mobile fun.
On the other hand I can go for a set of Dalex taps from Hombrewmegastore for £13 a pop and get the disconnects from Norm. That'll come in at around £66 for the pair and I'll get two part taps from Norm. Basically £10 of difference on the taps.
Just wondering if the extra cost for the Stainless taps is worth the effort.
German taps I want (These guys do loads of other things as well):

Exterminate, Exterminate.
The Stainless (Cybermen) ones must be better as they also have a bottle opener on the top!

Re: Dalex or Stainless Taps?
I started out with a stainless one and moved to dalex taps, partly for price but also partly because I liked the design for ease of cleaning. The stainless one looked better and worked almost as well, and in fact had a longer shank so may be easier for mounting in some ways, but was just that bit more complex so tended to hold onto beer in the spout side of things. Theres very little in it though, so it could simply come down to aesthetics if thats important.
Speaking of which, I notice that Norm has some gold ones now. I don't know what size the barbed pipe fitting is so could be worth checking.
Speaking of which (#2) I notice that dalex tap in the OP is 5/16th fitting, so you'll need an adaptor if you're using 3/8ths line.
I tried but didn't get on with the party taps that well; I find a longer line was much more helpful for dispensing beer without foam. I'd imagine they could work with a suitable method of corny gassing and carbonation, though.
Cheers

Re: Dalex or Stainless Taps?
sorry koomber, forgot to say that those taps look super nice.
the dalex ones seem the cheaper option but the stainless are shiny. if it was just for me i would go dalex but since mates and missus will be around to look at them i went for shiny

Re: Dalex or Stainless Taps?
with a name like a Kompensatorschankhahn the stainless has to be a winner. What is it compensating anyway?!
Re: Dalex or Stainless Taps?
apparently it is flow control. There is a little screw behind the handle that can be used to adjst it. Not sure if that will affect the choose to buy or not. Also on their shop is the small corny kegs for about thirty quid. Bought a couple last year.
Re: Dalex or Stainless Taps?
Ah well - flow control! - that makes all the difference. Which ever you buy, make sure you get the flow control. I have some "beer guns" and a dalex tap with flow control and it makes all the difference to controllability (sorry was trying to compete viz ze germanz for using as many vowels as possible
) If your beer is a little over carbonated or the dispensing tank pressure is too high it allows you to restrict the flow so you don't end up with a pint of froth!

Re: Dalex or Stainless Taps?
Decided to go for these instead http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220906347396? ... 500wt_1202 cheaper than the dalex (i really could have done with 3 but I'll sell hte spares)
