What to do with 100g of Citra
What to do with 100g of Citra
I've never made a beer with Citra before and I like lighter hopier brews such as Harvest Pale Ale or Timothy Taylor Landlord rather than darker maltier brews.
Does anyone have a suggestion how I can use this Citra, it doesn't have to be single hop but I want to get a feel for the Citra taste in the kind of style's as above.
Currently I'm thinking along the lines of 4500g Pale Malt, 30g Northern Brewer for 90m and Citra as a late and perhaps dry hop addition

Re: What to do with 100g of Citra
I tried Naich's Citradelic recipe and its lovely
Re: What to do with 100g of Citra
Has anyone here tried smoking hops? I'd give it a go but I gave up a while ago so I don't have the equipment.
This is Citradelic. I might be tempted to up the 90 minute quantity slightly as it came out a tiny bit too sweet for my taste:
Citradelic by Naich -- beerforge.com/recipe.php#178
===================
Pale Citra brew.
Volume: 23L, Efficiency: 78%
Alcohol (ABV): 5.4%, Original Gravity: 1.052, Final Gravity: 1.010
Bitterness (IBU): 50, Colour (EBC): 6
Recipe
======
Malt/Fermentables:
1. Pale Malt - Marris Otter (5 EBC) : 4974 g (100%)
Hops/flavourings:
1. Citra - AA 13.8 - (90 min) : 11.2 g (15%)
2. Citra - AA 13.8 - (30 min) : 15.6 g (21%)
3. Citra - AA 13.8 - (15 min) : 24.1 g (32%)
4. Citra - AA 13.8 - (1 min) : 24.2 g (32%)
Yeast: Safale US-05 (Attenuation 75%)
I'd agree with Ade and would avoid using Citra for dry hopping. You might not need to, as the Citra flavours and aromas are very strong anyway.

Re: What to do with 100g of Citra
I did a Citra single hop a while back with pale malt and a bit of Munich, pretty much the same hop additions as Naich, no dry hop and it had plenty of flavour and aroma. A very nice pint, one I must repeat soon.

Surely not! On this forum? Smoking something that smells this good and is the only plant on the planet related to marijuana?Naich wrote:Has anyone here tried smoking hops?

Re: What to do with 100g of Citra
I have just done something Similar, Citra on top of Magnum, which I think is very similar to Northern Brewer. I put 30g Citra at 15 mins from end of boil and its early doors yet(still in FV) but the overlay is nice, the citra comes through quite subtley but still has the flavour and aroma. Get in there. If you like Northern Brewer its a nice kick for it.
BTW Citra is in stock at Beer Republic at £15 for 500g

Re: What to do with 100g of Citra
On my first Citra brew I used it in a Pale ale, really didn't get much out of it, my 2nd brew i used it in this "Kipling" clone recipe, with input from someone who appears to be a brewer
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=38455&hilit=Kipling ... 30#p446574
I used all cascade, then 75g of citra at flame out, leaving it to soak in the hot wort for around 45mins (stiring occasionally) before cooling.
Gave an AMAZING full rounded hop taste to the beer. Already brewed it again! The bottles went inside a month.

If I'd ever tried it. Which I haven't, of course.
