Cleaning a 'forgotton' FV

Post by Scotty » Thu Jan 12, 2012 11:32 am

Amidst the chaos of moving house a few weeks ago, I forgot about an FV that I hadn't cleaned since probably mid-November. Imagine my supsrise when I opened my FV fridge only to be hit by a foul stench. I had also left the lid off.

I am planning on giving it a damn good clean with soda crystals followed by peracetic acid to sanitise. Would the FV be ok to use or should I bin it and move on?

I'd be inclined to fill it up with a Bleach and Water solution after cleaning and let it soak for a couple of days, then use you starsan.
Maybe even rinse / fill up with boiling water from your HLT

They're only £8 in wilkinson's - is it worth risking your next brew?

This FV is a gonner! Not only is it foul smelling, the inner surface is scratched so it's heading for the bin. Lesson learnt!

Fohat - I use the 60l Hop and Grape FV's
