I'd say, by that then, that we're about on a par, tolerance / requirement wise? You drink marginally less beer. But, ye drink a tad more spirits than I normally do. About evens out.

I wonder what the sums mean though, where I do it Every night. And you save it till the week end ....? Dunno. I'm useless at counting and sh!t. I doubt either of us could drink the other under the table though. So, this gear should turn out just about right for you, strength wise.

And that's what I consider it; A nice, enjoyable pint. It's not piss water. It's not loony juice. Brew to 20 Lts and, I find, ye get just the right combination of taste and 'satisfaction' Image

Hi all
First post but i've snooping around this forum for a while picking up loads of info and in awe of Ditch's Stout even though usually a lager drinker, but i digress, last Ditch's i did was 1 Kg dark spray malt + 400gm demerara sugar - ended up with a brew of around 5.5%
Hope that helps

Ditch, if my calculations are correct with the data you've provided, you're consuming a total of 24 units a night  which means that as the human body only processes 1 unit of alcohol an hour, you've always got alcohol in your blood stream, all day and all night

LAD =D>

Sounds about dead right to me, Hommebru. And this is why I've never learned to drive 8)

I've actually had a month off my own stuff ~ Long story. But, I drunk some pretty hectic substitutes instead  Now, having had a couple of pints of Guinness, in town, I'm home and back amongst my own gear again. Second pint's going down a treat. It tastes like treacle laced coffee. And I already feel warm and furry. Haven't even lit the stove yet either!

" Ditch's Stout " Master Class .....

Post by LeeH » Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:47 pm

Hello, noob here!

Can I corny keg this and use beer gas through a stout tap?

My thinking was to carb it to 30psi for 1 day, and then on a leave it on 70 30 nitrogen mix for 4 weeks before serving at 7 Deg.

Please feel free to pick holes! I've been reading up on here for ages but there is too much info to take in at once!

Cheers

Lee

Personally, Lee, I have absolutely no experience of those Cornie Kegs. Never been in the same room as one. However, I'd like to hear what anyone made of my stuff, through one of those and using the proper, nitrogen mix gas, giving it that legendary, creamy head. I reckon that would be a nice touch.

Temperature ye serving it at is, in my view, more important than what it looks like though

Doesn't matter too much, mate. If ye had the temp' up, like I do, it'll be long since ready to go. A ten day ferment is just a sort of industry standard. It's a fail safe. My gear ferments a damn site faster. Equally, I sometimes leave it in the FV for much longer, if I get too wrapped up to be messing about with washing BK's out, or something.

I've got four FV's sat there right now. God knows when I put them in. But, I'm such a lazy bastard and so preoccupied with other things, I'm actually drinking the fifth one straight out of the FV.

I've simply stuck a syphon tube with a little tap on it in there. Want a pint? I just whip the end of the tube out. Turn the tap and get one. Then I poke the end back under the lid. Another corner cut ~ no need to wash a keg! Easy Life!
