Where can I buy Star San currently?
Where can I buy Star San currently?
Hi everyone
Was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy Star San currently (Jan-Feb 2012) in a 8oz/227g bottle?
The home-brew-shop.co.uk is out of stock. I've searched google and can't find another supplier of this size and don't want to buy a 1 gallon bottle!
Many thanks in anticipation.

I think the Home Brew Shop are the only people who sell it in the UK. I've not come across any others.
Might be worth pinging them an email, as they probably have some on order, so should be able to give you an expected time when they have some back in stock.

I've always got mine from the home brew shop too. However I did notice just recently that its listed on the home brew company's web site.
I 'believe' this is the Irish lot, rather than the online company that shall not be named, but there was some confusion in a recent thread that I didn't read very thoroughly, so check to make sure.
Cheers

I just got a gallon off home-brew-shop
They didn't have any smaller bottles, but hey ho, what the hell.

Blimey! That should keep you going longer than a lifetime... and I'm not joking!AceMcAce wrote:I just got a gallon off home-brew-shop

I've just done a quick calculation. Do you realise that, using the recommended dilution rate of 1.6ml/litre, and assuming you get through 500ml of StarSan solution a week (although personally, 500ml will last me double that length of time), your (US) gallon bottle should last you 91 years!

With that amount, I can see you sanatizing the kitchen, garage, the car, cat, dog AND the children

I buy from The Malt Miller

Looks like an ideal opportunity to divvy up the stuff and sell smaller quantities on to JBK members....

Re: Where can I buy Star San currently?
You'd surely need hazardous materials equipment to even consider that. It's hardcore stuff undiluted and extremely hazardous.boingy wrote:Looks like an ideal opportunity to divvy up the stuff and sell smaller quantities on to JBK members....

Blimey, thats... a lot.
The first time I bought some I got three 16oz bottles at once, on the basis that I was passing the shop and didn't do so very often. It took me more than a year to use about half of one.
It keeps fairly well though
cheers

Only if you were going to do it sensibly and responsibly.EoinMag wrote:You'd surely need hazardous materials equipment to even consider that.boingy wrote:Looks like an ideal opportunity to divvy up the stuff and sell smaller quantities on to JBK members....

On a related note, does anyone else find it odd that Star San is much lauded as a home brew sanitiser yet it seems rare to find it in stock in the UK?

Re: Where can I buy Star San currently?
I seem to recall a discussion about this some years ago, about trying to get it imported. There were quite a lot of bureaucratic loops to jump through, in order to get the 'Hazardous Materials' allowed in trough customs etc.boingy wrote:Does anyone else find it odd that Star San is much lauded as a home brew sanitiser yet it seems rare to find it in stock in the UK?
Consequently there are very few wholesalers/retailers willing to do so to stock something that isn't going to be a massive turnover (After all VWP is just as good

I'm also not sure what Charlie / 5 Stars policy is regarding selling to multiple 'dealers' in a country . . . it could be an 'exclusive' distribution agreement

No, VWP is chlorine based and most definitely needs to be well rinsed. TCP flavour beer awaits otherwise

Dan!

Figured as much... I do envy the american brewers their StarSan... rinsing is a pain int'arse
