Fitting a dial thermometer to boiler
Fitting a dial thermometer to boiler
Hi Guys!
I am thinking of fitting a dial thermometer to my stainless steel stockpot that I use for my BIAB brews and came across this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIAL-GAUGE-RI ... 1c23738349
It seems cheap compared to others I have seen. Can anyone see anything wrong with it?
Also is there a rule of thumb about how far up the pot these things should be fitted? Obviously I don't want the pocket for the probe to damage my bag...

Ooh, that looks good. I may have to get myself a couple of them.
If I was doing BIAB I think I would have to have it fairly low down, but you may want to think about recirculating your wort to keep the temp constant from top to bottom, or just be aware of the temp difference.

I am in a bit of a bind now as I am seriously considering moving to 3 vessel all-grain (had a bit of an epiphany this afternoon
). Would you fit one of these to all 3 vessels?

Re: Fitting a dial thermometer to boiler
I dont really see the point of having one in a boiler of a 3V brewery, it's either boiling or not, but it might look well having 3 shiney dials looking out at you

Thats true spud. Unless it would come in handy when chilling after the boil..?

I would have one in the HLT, and one in the boiler.
I wouldn't bother in the Mash Tun as it would get in the way while I am mashing in. I also have the lid off the Mash Tun while I am Mashing In so can use my trusty digital thermometer which I can stick in at multiple places to check there are no hot or cold spots.

Re: Fitting a dial thermometer to boiler
got one after xmas but not fitted it yet. have tried it in a cup of water with my glass thermometer and it all matches up nicely. the stem takes the nut from a 15mm compression fitting but theres not much of a lip on it to catch on the outside of the pot to tighten it up. not quite sure how to fit at the mo.
