I have to go to meetings at Bradford Uni. Mysel and a couple of the lecturers pop out for lunch to the kash! Great little place and open for lunch! The chicken and spinach is awesome!

MY IPA re-brew is going like the clappers, fingers crossed this time it will be PALE. The Fuggle failure from before Christmas has turned out ok though, whisky notes on aroma and taste.

See you all there. :D

Out of interest, why magners style bottles? Does anybody really use those? Why not choose the most common of all the beer bottles that people are likely to already have in their garages?

I'd expect any brown bottles would do.

Using a 'standard' bottle eliminates the possibility of a Judge recognising their own or a mates beer from the bottle shape alone.

Magners style bottles fit in with the NAWB requirements of 1 pint brown sloping shoulder bottles. . . Personally the Euro pint (   horrible phrase   ) bottles that are 500ml and sloping shoulders should be acceptable as well . . . ( They will be for the CBA open National in September in Bristol . . .In fact that is one thing we will probably talk about at the next committee meeting.)

At the danger of offending a good many people I find it it distasteful to serve real ale from a cider bottle.....

I'm not a fan of Magners bottles either, they don't fit wide-bore or narrow-bore crates and stack correctly, pain in ass!
I would still hope that the Bristol NCB national Comp would allow all 500ml brown bottles, otherwise that beer you think is fantastic that has been aging since last year but its in the wrong bottle shape won't be allowable in the comp... that would be sad (this probably doesn't effect me, I'm just saying!) :)

They don't have to be Magners bottles . . . if you have any of the old pint bottles that boots used to sell they go just as well :D

Just a quick query, but do you have to be a NCB / MCB member to enter said competion?

Cheers

'said competition' being the national, i think it says CBA members will get discounted entry.

If you are on about the Saltaire comp, I'm sure just entering by emailing Shane will be fine, and pay your on the day subs / sign the register.

No you don't have to be a member of the NCB, we don't have a membership as such just a £2 donation per meeting, which goes towards prizes for comps, room hire, funds to hold national competitions such as we did at Skipton etc, (we are talking about another at the moment early next year). So by turning up you can become one of us no stress.

If you want to enter the competition you will need to get a shuffty on though, email me shane@bridestone.com & I will add you to the growing entry list, this is looking to be a big entry competition, & we now will also have a, NGWBJ Judge attending to add to the judges already announced.

Get those entries in 15th march is the cut off date.
