Noob Hand pump help

Hi, I've been lurking here for a while, and decided to jump in

I've started up the hobby again after years of absence, just a few kits for now, oh yes, and a mental TC on the go right now

............anyway, a quick question..... I've had this old pump in the garage for years, I've just stripped, cleaned, sterilised and polished it, seems to work perfectly, so I'm thinking of sticking a pipe on it,then into one of my brews a give it a pull ...

....my question is, is there a special attachment for the pipe ? (if so, where can I get one?) or is it just a push fit hose job ?

Do people use certain types of cask/container , or will it work straight from a big bottle ?

........any info would be helpful as it's something I've never played with.!!

Most beer engines use 1/2" tube, so just get a length of that and squeeze it on. For safe measures, just fit a hose clip.

If you're using this with a pressurised system i.e a corny, then you'll need a check valve and mount it as close, as you can to the pump itself, other than that, there's not a lot to say really. Likewise, if you're using it with a none pressurised system and you have CO2, then you could use a cask asperator, to extend the life of your brews.

I've got a couple of Angrams which are great fun to play with, especially for parties, there use is however limited, unless you use them regular, as the Angrams dispense and draw on the same stroke, so there's always 1/4 of a pint in the cyclinder. I believe the Worthside engines have a dual action, in which case you can leave the lever down, to leave the cylinder empty.

As stated above Angrams have a 1/2" outlet
You can get a john guest speed fitting to reduce down from that to a smaller bore tubing if thats what you prefer.
I use a check valve on my set up as I use either Cornis or poly pins to dispense from. (it stops flow back and the pressure in the corni forcing beer through the engine...)

The check valve has a 3/8" OD outlet which I can plug straight into my corni out post or the 3/8" tube can be forced over the outlet of my poly pins (I use silcone hose for that and it gives a good seal.
I have a 1/4 pint water cooled pump I use most of the time but also have a none chilled 1/2 pint which only comes out for parties!

welcome back to brewing millemg, im jealous of your pump. and i want one.. just no room to put it

getting all the kit co2 and valves breathers etc will allow you to pull every last pint out of a container.

if you use a polypin there is a low tech solution. sit a weight on the bag, a tray with a couple of bags of sugar should do to start with.. this will keep just enough positive pressure to allow your pump to suck beer thru without contaminating air getting back into the beer.

the downside of this low tech approach is its more wasteful, but Im not an expert and only know what i do from looking at serving my own beer. I opted to go the keg and tap route.

Tho i dont think you can beat a pint of bitter served thru a pump... enjoy the beer

Thanks for the comments guys, i managed to hook up my brew. I have overcome the issues of storage and air contamination, i'll just drink all the beer in one session simples
