Water treatment?

Post by Tobys » Fri Mar 09, 2012 9:06 pm

Hi all. I live in Pembrokeshire, Wales (rural area) where I believe the tap water to be pretty good. Would it be worth treating the water with a Camden tablet or leaving it overnight uncovered do you think? If using the tablets how many would I use for a 25l batch? Or should I just go for bottled water?? Thanks all

Definitely worth removing chlorine: - half a campden tablet will treat 25l of water.

More info on water treatment here.

Thanks I'll try that- would I need to sterilise the vessel before adding the water or would the tablet do this too? Thanks all

I presume that since you're posting in the extract brewing forum, you'll be boiling all the liquor anyway, so it doesn't matter.

If you were making up a kit, I'd advise sterilising the fermenter properly first.
