Not sure what to call this. Now called Chincade

Post by soupdragon » Fri Mar 30, 2012 5:52 pm

Hi All

Having a play tomorrow to use up some hops, so........

Pale malt to about 4.5%
Caramalt 250g just for the hell of it

Cascade 34g for 90 mins
Cascade 33g for 15 mins
Chinook 50 g for 15 mins
Cascade 33g at 80c for 30 mins
Chinook 50g at 80c for 30 mins

Nottingham yeast

Anything oviously wrong with it apart from not enough hops

Cheers Tom

I wonder how much I'll lose to the hops?
Is there a litre/gram table anywhere that would give an idea?

assuming you're on 23l, I reckon at least a gallon. My IPA is similar on hop quantities and that is what i expect to lose. You could try putting the first hops in at 60, keep with a 90 min boil though as this should help with clarity, as i find my IPA is a bit hazier than I would like. Looks like a nice recipe. :-)

Yeah, 23l brew
I've never done anything over 40 or so ebu before and certainly never with that many late hops. Will be interesting how my day goes.

Just fiddled in Beer Engine to reduce the 90 min down to 60. I'm surprised the bittering only dropped by 1 unit......
Can't see the point in doing it really as there'll be little improvement in the flavour.................. Unless you know something I don't ( quite likely by the way ) :D

After many seconds of thought, I've decided to call this Chincade.

How original

Just double checked the Alpha Acid of the hops and am going to drop the 15 min additions down to 10 mins.
Should come out at about 64 now and not 75 ebu

All done and the nice yesties are getting used to their new home. Time will tell what it'll be like but if I don't experiment I'll never know.
Tis the only way I'll learn stuff :D
