luckily i still had a few pints of wherry in the barrel.
I'm afraid i'm having to tip it abit now! Still tasting great though. :)
Wort is down to 26degrees, soon time to pitch the safale04 starter (which is bubbling nicely).
Splitter Bitter tomorrow i think....

Tested my sample at 20deg and og is 1.054. Result!
First time i've done this but think, using almost 5kgs of grain, this makes my efficiency 83%. Rather more than i had expected.
with a fg of about 1.014 i should be left with an abv of 5%. :D

Hmmm - I know what you mean, it was hard to get good photos - most of them came out a bit dodgy - the ones on the web were the best of the bunch. Fantastic caves though  8)

ok, this one's been in primary for 10 days now and has only shifted 2 points in the last 4 days. its at 1.022 now and was 1.024 on fri night. :(
i am expecting a fairly high fg as mashed at 67, could it be nearly done?
i have roused the yeast over the w'end and upped the temp from 18 to 22 on sun. The og was 1.054 which is the highest gravity i have made so far.

is this just a natural slowing down as the yeast tries to use the last of the fermentable sugars, or should i think about re-pitching another yeast?

dry or make a starter?

i used safale04 this time and have more of that or a spare of another.
I'm also going to aerate better next time as i feel this may have been the problem.

A little slow for SO4 but it should get down there in time. Don't make a starter a day before with dry yeast - the manufacturer has included nutrient reserves with the yeast and a starter will just deplete these. Rehydrate before you pitch it instead. Also, you need to aerate as well as possible for best results.

Congrats with your first AG brews btw, I'm glad they went well 8)
