Converting a blue barrel to a HLT/copper
Re: Converting a blue barrel to a HLT/copper
Have just calculated the cost of this one....with all the parts £175.00 near enough
A long way from the £22 barrel
Plus the 10kW electrics upgrade £300
I'd better drink a lot of beer to get my money back. One batch Saving of a pound a bottle vs supermarket. = £200 saved. Only need to get through 475 bottles to break even....now how long could that take?

Re: Converting a blue barrel to a HLT/copper
Its interesting how these things add up! Still, its quite a spacious one so should do whatever you want of it.
I made a plastic conical FV a while ago; it seemed a lot cheaper than stainless but by the time all the fittings, lid, support/cupboard etc had been sorted it had cost 'loads' - I rather suspect investing in a stainless tank would have been more appropriate. Still, if you buy beer then its one of the few hobbies I've ever had that will (eventually) pay for itself. If you can stop tinkering anyway - in spite of all past evidence I have high hopes that my next/imminent upgrade will be 'it' for at least some years!
