Wedding Brew ideas

Post by orlando » Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:27 pm

Next doors daughter is getting married and in a loose lipped moment I said I could brew a special beer for it. Who has some ideas about what I could do + ideas for a label, the couple are Tom & Olivia so a snappy title is required too. Traditionally English style beers would be the ball park.

Well I don't know but traditionally mead was the beverage of choice as it was said to positively effect fertility. In that vein, I supose a beer with a bit of honey in it would be appropriate.
Drinking:Saison (in bottles), Belgian Dubbel (in bottles), Oud Bruin (in bottles), Olde Ale (in bottles),
Abbey Triple (in bottles), Munich Helles, Best Bitter (TT Landlord clone), English IPA
Conditioning: Traditional bock bier, CAP
Fermenting: Munich Dunkel
Next up: Bitter (London Pride like), ESB
So many beers to make, so little time (and cold storage space)

If you want lots of folk to drink it and come back for more, go for a modest strength (4%) pale-ish ale. Nothing controversial, not dark and definitely not too hoppy. If you want a smaller but dedicated audience, go stronger and darker. If you want a modern "statement" with a view to educating some palettes, then pale, strong and hoppy is the way.

First name I thought of was Ol' Tom. Not very wedding-y but very trad. I guess the label could feature an artificiality aged Tom beside a still young and beautiful Olivia, thus fulfilling that wedding thing of teasing the groom and flattering the bride. :D

Thanks Boingy, well thought through. Your first idea is the one that appeals but people coming back for more might be a problem as I can only get around 50 bottles out and 80 are coming and even taking in to account quite a lot won't want beer hopefully when they taste mine they think it's sensational and drink me out but only as things are winding down

It's a country set family wedding in Burgh Parva Hall so a little on the grand side and rather traditional so a typical British beer is probably where it will end up. Recipe ideas anyone?

With the varying palates of a wedding congregation, play it safe on the wedding ale, no hop bombs, nothing too out there - M.O. with a splash of crystal, fuggles and goldings. They will love you for it regardless and I maintain this brews a cracking pint.

As for the name, just kept having Olivia in my mind and tried to think of famous Olivia’s and came up with:

“Grease, the Wedding Ale

Featuring:

Olivia New-to-Tom”

I see a blossoming career in tabloid headline design…

Quite briliant thank you very much. I'll let The Sun know of your availability. I have thought of just one tweak, I will call it "You're The One That I Want:: Wedding Ale

Ha! Great stuff! Glad I could be of a little assistance Orlando – and your addition makes a lot more sense. But now to the important part of what you are going to put in the bottles.
Good luck, hope it goes well, keep us informed.

See above. I think Boingy's first idea is the one. What I will do is follow it right though from recipe to brewday to wedding day and post pics along the way, should be a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to it. I will also be brewing a Jubilee day beer. My local butcher suggested a beer & sausages event outside his shop with a BBQ, selling the combo for charity. I agreed so it looks like the next few brewdays are not going to end up in me, well not all anyway.

My favourite piccy is going to be the one where you persuade a non-beer drinker to try some because of the special occasion.
Let's call it the "sucking on a lemon" shot.... :D

I did this last year and brewed a honey beer and an IPA. The IPA went down better than the honey beer though both beers got finished pretty damn quickly! I'm getting married in July myself and plan to brew around 3 or 4 different beers for my wedding. They'll range from 4% - 6% probably. I'm defs going to do something fruity with honey to hopefully entice the female guests. If this turns out good, I'll do that: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=49791

Incidentally her Mother is an Apiarist so maybe something with honey should/could be involved. I have to say the only honey beer I have tasted is Waggle Dance and I didn't rate it at all, bland and barely honey involved at all, but of course this was a commercial beer. Her Mother could provide me with some top notch honey so what about a really great recipe that showcases honey. Even if I don't do it for the wedding she runs a B&B at the Hall so she might want some for her guests.

Hi, thats spooky. I have exactly the same problem/task for some good friends getting hitched. The groom has helped me out in specifying beer style - he wants pale, hoppy session style beer abot 3.5-4% ABV. So I am thinking of a Deuchars IPA clone or maybe a Trad English Ale (Hogs back). Anyway the beer is not the problem its more the lableing! Need a name for the beer and ideas for where best software programme top design the lables and then print them. Names are Dominy and Simon. Any contributions/ideas very gratefully received.
