How much spray malt

Post by consolsbob » Tue Apr 17, 2007 9:32 am

Good Morning

I am about to barrel my Wherrys Bitter for secondary fermentation. the kit suggests half a teasponn per pint. This seems a lot. Can I use sparymalt instead. If so how much?

Some forum members seem not to secondary ferment at all.

Advice please

You're right, that is a lot. That's the instructions for bottling, but the dynamics of a barrel are different when it comes to secondary fermentation.

I would use something like 75 grams of malt extract for priming a barrel, anywhere near that would be fine.

When you keg your beer, this is in effect secondary fermentation.

I always use 1 teaspoon per pint whether I am bottling or kegging. Saying that, I prime with glucose rather than DME.
