Weird water taste experiments

(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

If you have a local pet centre/fish department on the same water supply, buy some RO water from them to see if it has the taste. Expect to pay 10p/litre. You could buy enough for a small test brew.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

Have you had a look at the water calculator (calculators link at top of page)?
I know softer water is required for paler AG brews.

You could try "borrowing" some water from a neighbour. It's possible your plumbing system might have a problem (like a dead-end section where the water remains stagnant). Or the issue might be further afield in the local supply system, so it could be worth getting some tap water from elsewhere. If you can taste it in the water itself, it might be worth asking your water company. We had an issue with TCP tastes once and they were very helpful (traced it to a plastic hose).
