A Few Questions. Apologies for Covering Old Ground.

Post by Tramorak » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:45 pm

Does the Buffalo Boiler do a rolling boil without having to bypass the thermostat?

Pretty sure I have read elsewhere that it has a 110 setting that most people use.

Do any of the commercially available hop filters work with this boiler? If not, what do you use?

Planning on Ordering a Custom Bag from Eoin on the board. I have seen pretty good reviews. Any thoughts?

I am 100% Apple, so I am limited with the brewing software that I can use. What do you recommend for a non Windows based machine? (I could bootcamp and run Windoze, but I really would rather not).

Can anyone recommend a good site/chart/anything that deals with hop varieties and their best applications, ie bittering/flavour/aroma? I have a personal list of some of the more popular and commonly used hops, but there seem to be so many varieties that are not covered by the links I generally use, so I would be grateful of anything that brought it all together.

I am planning on doing GW's Bass clone as my first brew (Page 116) as it seems like a pretty simple recipe for a beer that both I and SWMBO enjoy. Any thoughts or opinions?

Again, I apologise for the questions which I know have been answered elsewhere, but I have been reading around, both here and elsewhere so much that I have lost track of a lot of info.

Cheers.

I can answer a couple of your questions.

Buffalo does rolling boil without a thermostat bypass. I have the 40 litre one. I haven't used it yet but part of the reason for buying it was for this very reason.

My brother has installed beer alchemy and beersmith on his Mac without having to run a parallel operating system. I have a Mac as well so intend to do the same.

Beersmith has a Mac version. I just bought the PC one when it was on sale about a week ago and it alost seems too comprehensive. But I will get my head around it.
It seems it can go from fairly simple, download a recipie and use it as a timer, to fully design your beer, even what additions to get the best from your water.
