Newbie question about temperature

Post by Dave_Brew » Tue Jun 12, 2012 4:50 pm

Hi guys and gals. I'm starting to get the kit together to do a Hobgoblin clone brew and have a question about the temperature's that different stages are kept at. After the boil and first brewing stage what temp should the beer be kept at? I don't have much space in my house but have a shed and was wondering if it was OK to keep it in there? Any help would be great :-) Is it worth going round the house and shed with a thermometer to find a good spot?

Hi Dave
After primary fermentation your beer should be kept at about 20c for a week for secondary and then put in as cool place as you can manage at this time of year for it to condition. Good luck with your first AG.

Thanks for that mate. I'm guessing it's better if the temp is reasonably stable with no big swings in temp so maybe the shed wouldn't be the best. Can you put some sort of insulation round the tub to keep the temp a bit more constant?

Or a wet towel if you want to keep it cool. You'll need to be careful of dripping water and you'll also have to keep it wet, so it's quite high maintenance.
