do this work ???
Re: hop over load
i was thinking about brewing this as i have a lot of hops and grain that need usen up ,but not sure how it will turn out any help ?
Re: hop over load
Are you sure you have got the OG and FG right? An OG of 1.051 ending at 1.024 doesn't ring true.....
Re: hop over load
mmmm im not sure i will have alook on brew pal on my phone its ment to be 6 % but do you think the grains and hop look ok ?
Re: hop over load
I think the hops look fine. Personally I would not put any of the chocolate, roasted barley or black malt in an IPA - not even for colour. I would try to keep it simple.
Re: hop over load
yes they were for colour i wont put them in then i will be brewing this next week will keep u updated
Re: hop over load
Just a quick one about your 60min hop additions, if they go over 50 IBU's they wont make any difference at 60 mins. (IE your calc might say itll give you 100 IBU's but in reality itll flatline around the 50 mark - its in the brewneversity post on dry hopping etc) I haven't tried it but thats something to look at. As for chocolate/dark/black malts, save them unless you're looking to make a black IPA
The IPA category is so diluted you can do quite a bit and call it an IPA so only add them if you want it dark, otherwise theres not much point.

Re: hop over load
This is a... pretty bizarre recipe if I'm honest.
I think I see what you're trying to do with the Chocolate, Black and Roasted Barley, but they will contribute more than just colour and the flavours are likely to clash with such a high hop level. I would swap those 3 malts for some Crystal or Munich to get a bit of colour going. I'm not sure what the corn is there for either; I don't think you'd taste it at the 1.5% level, and personally I'm not convinced it fits in a hoppy beer anyway.
Speaking of the hops, I'm not sure if maybe you've got your timings backwards. Brewing software generally works in reverse, so the 0 min hops go in at the end of the boil, not the start. They way you've got this set up, you'd have a massive amount of bittering additions followed by progressively smaller aroma additions. You'll end up with a startlingly bitter beer without much hop flavour to carry it. Most IPA recipes would have relatively small bittering additions at the start of the boil with massive amounts chucked in at the end.
Looking at your gravity numbers, you must have made an error somewhere. I copied this recipe into my software and got an OG of 1.069 at 75% efficiency. You could get that to finish at 1.024 if you used a high mash temp of around 68c, but you'd have a very sweet, chewy beer. In my opinion, you should be aiming for a much lower FG.
Hope this helps you out a bit.

Re: hop over load
I've never used loads of english hops in an IPA like that, but I would shoot for about 20 IBUs of progress at the start of the boil, then everything else in the last 15 mins, reserving maybe 50g Willamette, 50g First Gold and all of the Aurora for dry hopping.
