Electrical Hardware for Brewshed (Now Fitted!)

Post by k1100t » Fri Jun 29, 2012 3:13 pm

After a year of not brewing due to building work, my sheds were moved into their final resting places earlier in the week. :D I'm now just waiting on the sparkies coming out to finish the last few jobs, one of which is to wire the shed up with power. I have a question about what type of hardware to specify, i.e. do I need to get IPxx waterproof sockets and steam proof lights etc, so can I get away with normal sockets and fluro fixtures...?

I was thinking of getting a couple of these fluro lights, but have no idea what the difference between T5, T8 and T12 is? Do I need to worry...?

It's also much cheaper to get normal sockets than these bad boys, but I'm worried about boil overs, rain water leaking in etc. Again, do I need to worry...?

Just interested in what everyone else has in their shed.

Thanks,

Bob.

but have no idea what the difference between T5, T8 and T12
it relates to the diameter of the tube in 1/8 of an inch,T8 is 1 inch diameter
Normall sockets should be fine if the sheds water tight, although metalclad would be more robust, also it might be worth thinking of getting a 16A ceeform or 2 put in for for the boiler and HLT.

Mega poor after financing the extension, so that kind of connector will probably have to wait. Will look into metal clad sockets though.

Thanks,

Bob.

A sink and drainage would be most useful! It's a pain to keep going back to the kitchen!

I have an outside tap and drain just outside the shed, so that's less of an issue!

Cheers,

Bob.

Well, the order is in with the sparkies, for one metal clad switch, three metal clad double sockets and a 6ft 70w corrosion resistant triphospor fluro unit. Hopefully it'll all be in either later today or tomorrow, which means I can get all the crap out of the house later this week and finally convert the fridge with a tube heater and temperature controller. Nearly ready to brew again after a year off... :D

Cheers,

Bob.

The sparkies came yesterday and I now have power to my shed! The consumer unit is fitted with a 63A RCD, which I'm assuming should be waaaaay more than enough for my current setup and should provide me with some scope to upgrade the kit in years to come without having to get a rewire.

Now I just need to find some space somewhere to put everything back and order some ingredients from The Malt Miller...

Cheers,

Bob.

Nope,it depends on the size of the cable running to the shed and the size and type of fuse on the other end

No idea them, it's some thick armoured job... Best I ask them what it'll take then...

Cheers,

Bob.
