Might be too small actually... Could be really fiddly...
I should warn you, this is addictive. I'm been playing around with these jerricans and gadgets for a couple of years. I have a shelf full of experiments, some failed and some moderate successes.

How about this? Lots of sizes to choose from... what would be a sensible size do you reckon?

Nothing came through. Is there supposed to be a link or a pic?

That's pretty much the same item as I show above in my system, albeit brass not nylon. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=34920

I screw it into threads on the cap. When tephlon tape is used, it's absolutely air tight. The trick is going to be making it air tight.

a bung with a hole bored thru it, car tyre valve and a large (foodsafe) bag/balloon....

insert the tyrevalve into the bung hole inlet poking out the fat end

put the bung in the balloon neck, valve outwards, and insert the baloon and bung into the hole drilled for it above the beer line.

to pressureise and pour beer attach a bike/foot pump to the valve and pump a bit of air into the balloon/bag.

its basically the principal used in the plastic eurokegs only the beer goes in the bag..
Certainly a unique idea! A lot of bits and bobs involved though...
well a tyre valve on its own with a bleeding cap would work to let air in when pouring, the baloon/bag would also keep the air away from the beer, prolonging shelf life to closer to what you could expect from a PB or corny.
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(

Cheers Fil. Would you be able to direct me to a suitable tyre valve on Ebay please? There are loads! Also, I can't seem to find any bleeding caps on there. I like this idea. Could be a cheaper option. :D

Thanks again.

Im only repeating what ive read elsewhere.. tyre valves have been used successfully as pressure guage adaptors/release valves for plastic pressure barrels,

do a search in here for "tyre valve pressure barrel" and lots of threads appear (most are relevant)

in a PB i think something like this would be best being Stainless steel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/stainless-ste ... 53edb46176

however due to neck size restrictions a friction fit may be a better option?

??Can you get Stainless steel friction fitting valves?? Posh car bits is beyond my scope ive always driven sheds..

the bleeding caps look like these

why not go the whole way and fit an s30, sparklets fitting, or corny in post so u can add co2 and use the tyre valve to bleed off excess pressure, letting o2 near the beer is gonna ruin its shelf life. i wouldnt rely on a stable co2 layer sitting on top of the beer protecting it, as soon as you let air in its going to be turbulant and disturb the status quo of gas in the jerrycan. if you use co2 you should be able to expect shelf life similar to a PB or corny.. let air(O2) in and it may only last a few more days

Cheers for this. Ordered some tyre valves. My plan is to use my 10L cube for parties etc, so no worries about the beer going bad.

You could screw one of these in
http://www.solwayfeeders.com/products/1 ... 1-c64.html
But then you would have to tape the push pin in somehow while pouring!
And it would probably be pretty slow as they are quite small.

Ah, something like this could be the answer. I have a similar 10 liter container for parties and such.

The large cap will work as is to allow O2 to enter when pouring, but if you feel like the cap is too large, you could apply a bulkhead

then perhaps a wing bolt with a rubber washer

These are ideal actually. I may play around with them at some point. Cheers!
