Hi all, planning stages of my first porter and wonder if anyone can advise on recipe below?
DME Pale 3.5kg
Crystal malt 450g
Chocolate malt 170g
Roasted barley 40g
EK Golding 50g for 60mins
Fuggles 35g for last 15 mins
Wyeast 1027 London ale
25 litre volume
OG 1.054
FG 1.013
5.4%abv
Bitterness 33ebu
Colour 101ebc

I might leave out the roasted barley, I know it's not very much but I think it might give a more stouty bitterness than you'd expect in a porter.
I got 3rd place in a comp once with just DME, crystal & chocolate with fuggles for hops, so I'd say it looks good.

I'd leave out the roast barley too.
I made St Peter's honey porter from the Norm's Almanac thread and it is excellent. I'm tempted to try it without the honey, too, as it seemed very nice before I added it.

I agree. The last porter I brewed I used some brown malt for the first time and it turned out good.
I'm just here for the beer.
