Brew Day 27.4.07

Post by splitter » Sat Apr 28, 2007 10:09 am

After Barreling my first ag bitter last week i find myself with an empty fermenter.
Not wishing to anger the beer police i thought i'd brew another summer quaffing bitter today. 8)
I'm going for the same recipe as last time which ended up as:

Splitters Suffolk Bitter (23 lts)

3.5kg Pale Malt MO
0.25 Crystal Malt
0.1 Chocolate Malt

20g Target (start Boil)
28g Golding (last 60)
28g Golding (last 30 min)
28g Golding (last min and steep)
14g Golding dry hop in barrel

Safale04
Mash - 90 min at 66
Boil - 90 min
Efficiency 85%
Target OG 1.042

Boiler is on!

Best of luck, hope all goes to plan.

Same recipe again eh? Personally, I try & have different beers on the go at the same time. Apparently we need variety in our diets

I do like to have a selection available as well. :)
did a stout as well as this a couple of weeks back and also got a kit pale ale which i'm drinking.
Think my next one will have to be a strong ale. any recommendations :?:
I do like my bitter though and will get through that much quicker.
The first one i did has only been conditioning a couple of days but had a sneaky half last night and loved it. :)

Mash on! Going smoothly so far.

That recipe looks great - I can understand you wanting to return to it

All went well yesterday, the yeast head has hit the lid today. :)
Only problem i had was a small splillage and an over boil, lost a couple of pints of the wort but still ended up with 23ltrs at og 1.040.
So still within 2 points of my target (42).
Forgot the whirlfloc tab though, wort looking abit cloudier than last time for it.
After my stout failed to fully ferment out i aerated with an aquarium air pump this time.
I sanitised the stones and tubing by sticking them in the sparge water boiler after it had been turned off (so hot not boiling) and just got them out once the wort had cooled.
This seems to have got the yeast off to a good start. 8)
