It's simply never been an issue) Ye might still want to track down some ageing hippy type place though. Where they scoop what ever amount ye want out of a cardboard barrel and sling it in a brown paper bag.

Could well cut the price appreciably. And no fancy, crispy packaging to get rid of

Generally called paddle mixers or stirrers Ditch ;). They are a mixer with a paddle in them which is what stirs up so well. Used for paint or plaster mixing in a drill. Knew what you were describing but not listed in screwfix or B&Q under artex.

Knew I'd seen them in cheap shops but looked in Poundland today and nothing :(. Have a Poundworld nearby so will check that tomorrow.

As for sugar, Kwik Save long gone. Searched H&B for 'raw cane sugar' but their search engine is awful.

Not got a cheapy weigh out place here (this is Shropshire you know) but 88p for two brews is cheap enough for me!

Edit - thanks for confirming the sugar Ditch

Plaster one looks a little more agressive so should get a better mix :)

What you using screwfix for ? worse service and prices 30% higher than most toolstation stuff..... ;)

Yo! Yeah. Just to say; I'd go for the first one. Chrome plated. That's the one I have. I chose it because I had this thought about the orange paint blowing, lifting and coming away in ones FV. Which, I'm sure, it would.

My chromed one ~ interestingly ~ has lost some chrome. It's actually Rusty, in those spots. Not a matter though. I simply rinse it off under the cold tap, after use. Then, I stand it up on the work top, for a month. Just stood there. Exposed as an empty jar.

When I'm psyching up to put another half a dozen together? I just take it outside and pish it with a mist spraying of Iodafor. Crank it into my crazy fast little Skil power drill and do the work. Rinse it and stand it back where it came from. Never a problem. And I've done a Lot of kits like this

Thanks again guys. As for the Screwfix v Toolstation thing... Screwfix came first here, cheaper than most so I use them. Toolstation opened and I got a catalogue and didn't find it much different, so carried on with what I knew. Will get another catalogue when I go in for this though, and have another look.

Need to hold off a bit really. Got two PB's full of beer already and as I work on the trains there are weeks I can't hardly drink a ruddy thing :(. Mind you, it seems others like it more the older it gets! Is it still authentic Ditch's stout after a month in the keg though?!

Certainly is  I went on the wagon, end of last year. So, I donated a few kegs I had sitting here to friends of mine. One of whom was an extremely slow drinker. He must have taken Months to get through it. Reckons it was good to the end though Image

Hi Ditch,

to 'warm' your stout you could always add a fish-tank heater to your barrel at say 17°c so it would still taste perfect even in mid winter.

When I pour the first pint, having transferred from a heated FV to a BK, then poured a pint straight out of the keg, no time for it to lose temperature? Frankly? I'd rather it was a couple of degrees cooler. I guess I like to taste my stuff about body temperature ~ what ever that is? ~ or a bit lower.

I don't like cold beer. Cold kills flavour, to my pallet. But, nor do I like " warm " beer. As in dipping ones hand into a small pond on a boiling hot summers day, warm. I don't like to 'Taste' warm on my tongue ~ and I can get that when I drink it straight from the 21 C environment.

Get the freezing chill off it and it should reveal its true colours. I wonder what they'll be ....?
That, for the record, turned out to be f**king Superb!!! From here on in, my BK's live in here, with me, the Dogs and the warm!
So if you used a heater in your BK as well but set to a lower temp of say 19°C this would allow you to have your beer at the drinking temperature you would enjoy. Just a thought.

Well, that's another brew on the go, Cooper's Irish Stout kit + 1Kg Munton's Dark DME + 300g Cane Sugar, topped up to 20L.

Not quite a Ditch's Stout I know, but pretty near.

OG a gnat's todger under 1050.

Took less than an hour.

All good fun.

Now I haven't any more ingredients....
