Diluting the brew...

Hi guys,

About two months ago, someone posted a formula that helped you figure out how much water to add to a volume of wort in order to dilute it to a certain OG. (Calum?) Could someone post that formula again?

I'm still new to the AG thing, so I'm mashing a bit more grain than I'll probably need to, and afterward I'd like to dilute it down to the proper OG.

Or you could use the dilution calculators in Beersmith/Promash (the free versions do it)

I think it's:-

water required = (( Original Gravity * Original Volume ) / Final gravity ) - original volume

where gravity units are "points" i.e. 1040 = 40 points.

Yep, that's what Steve's formula gives when rearranged and water substituted for one of the beers (points = 0). Thanks for the simplified version, Andy!
