Hello from Wilkinson

Post by Steve@Wilkos » Fri Sep 14, 2012 1:59 pm

Hi Everyone.

My name is Steve and I am part of the Wilkinson Homebrew team. I am relatively new to homebrewing, but do use forums for other topics and therefore I know what a great place they are for sharing information and learning about things. Before posting this, I contacted Jim and got his permission, to see if he would mind me asking you guys for some feedback on the new Wilko Own Brand range of home brewing.

We launched the Wilko own brand range this summer with great reviews from the independent taste testing we did prior to launch. Now that the range has been out there for over a month I would like to get some feedback from the experts on what is good, bad, ok, missing etc from the range we have in store and online. Also, what do you think of the leaflets. So please feel free to reply below with any comments you have. If there is something you don't like then please follow it up with what you would like us to do/change to improve our offer. As well as the new Wilko own brand, we still have a range of branded products, so any feedback on those too would be great.

Cheers
Steve

Have you ever thought about seeing which of your stores don't have an homebrew shop near by,and then selling all types of grain for all grain brewing and also equipment for all grain brewing.my nearest home brew shop is 20 miles away but you have a store 4 miles away from me,so I could just jump on a bus.Cheers

I was most pleased to see the range properly set out on an aisle rather than tucked away as was in my local store.

Hi Fishplate.... Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we only have limited space in store to give to our home brew products. Which store is your local? Each store is different in size so depending on how big it is, then there are 3 different versions of the range it can stock. The smallest offering is a 1 metre wide display and the largest is 3 metre wide. I can't see us selling grain in stores in the near future, but is it something you would buy from us if we did it via our online offer?
cheers
Steve

Thanks jaberry, that is good to hear. What do you think of the new Wilko own brand products?

Cheers

Hi Steve!

Welcome to the forum!
I have seen the own brand kits in my local store, and have almost been tempted on few occasions...
Could you tell us about more bout the kits and how they are produced?

I guess what I am looking for is assurance of quality.

Cheers!

Guy

My Mrs just made the forest fruits cider and declared it amazing. So, if the rest of the range is as good, you are onto a winner. My only suggestion is to carry yeast nutrient, full yeast range etc in all stores. I know space is limited, but the way the sachets are stored there's room to add more yeast and probably nutrient too in even the 1m space
Fermenting: Russian Imperial Stout experiment, Raspberry turbo cider, Wilko Rose wine, Plum wine

Keg1: Coopers Euro Lager

Keg2: Empty :(

Hi Steve

Can you confirm that Wilko Gervin Ale Yeast is still the same yeast as Danstar Nottingham?

Cheers Tom

Hi local store is thetford, norfolk. Impressed with new range would like more coopers ie old dark and cerveza. Cheap spraymalt would be welcome instead of enhancer. Good to see own range kits have three week ferment time, we nearly always give brew that long..also glass bottles pricey how about go to cheaper PET 500ml packs. Oh and freebies for me would be nice, ta

Edit forgot sweet newkie is conditioning now first impression Much darker than traditional sweet malt taste not that prevalent..but I do mess about with kits

Hi Manx Guy,
I look after the merchandising and display methods for the range, so I am not really qualified to give you the detail that you are after. I have however sent an email to our supplier for some more technical data on the quality. I will post up here when they get back to me.

Cheers
Steve

I will have to get back to you on the cost to deliver. At present it is not a product that we stock online, but watch this space. Thanks for the feedback
