PERFORATED PLATE FOR MASHING

Post by pete57 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 7:57 pm

Having trawled this forum i am looking at designing and building a combined mash tun and boiler. I require 2 perforated plates approx 300mm dia. I am cosidering using 1mm holes on .8mm plate which is 23% open. Could anybody advise on the correct gauge for such purposes to start with.

Secondly if i order a sheet from suppliers i would have to order a 2 x 1 metre sheet. Would anybody have any offcuts i could buy or be willing to share costs.

many thanks in anticipation

peter :D

There are plenty of offcuts of perforated SS sheet of various hole diameters on e-bay, I got a piece about 400 mm square for my false bottom. :=P

One of the original / best threads viewtopic.php?f=6&t=41588&p=446795&hili ... om#p446795

I would go for as thicker material you can get.
Hair of the dog, bacon, butty.
Hops, cider pips & hello.

Name the Movie + song :)

Thanks for replies.I had already read this post and agree it was one of the best threads but they didnt specify the hole dia etc and they used the entire sheet. The material thickness is relative to the hole size and i think hole size is more important.
