Also, what about the range and tescos? They don't see the need to discount, and i bet you have them close by !! Nah, this is a bullying tactic from Wilkinsons trying to take over an industry. Well, answer that one Steve. Just another Tescos style big store chain seemingly looking to take control of an industry and make the owners a bit richer. Mr Wilkinson may well need another boat.

Watch what they do to prices once they own the industry.

So pack it in and stop trying to denigrate other peoples valid discussions. This is not a trivial issue.

Hi wxmexile
We had dark spraymalt as one of the option when we decided the range. But we only had limited space and it did not make it. Again, this is something we could do online. I am glad you like the range of kits we have.

Cheers

That would be good, as long as it could be delivered to the store for free! will let you know how my sweet newkie brown turns out!

I've not been in wilkos for ages, I'll go and take a look now, if it's only for some cheap yeast

I think fatdoris's concern is quite valid. But at the same time, when I have to get a two pound pack of bottle caps, it is really painful to pay 5 pounds for shipping.
Same goes for a lot of tiny items used in brewing. Most sites do ship for free above a certain amount, but one can't always shop for that amount.

Thank you Wilkinson's for sparing room for home brewing supplies in your store.

Have been following this thread, and will state straight up got wilkos freebie cheers. But agree and support some of fat doris viewpoint. However wilkos six miles, good lhbs twenty, favourite hbs sixty miles. P+p normally a fiver even for small orders. Got into homebrew to save dosh. So if wilkos can do at worst 60% of what I need(kit, dme, yeast, sundries) ,hops via WHS,to me no brainer...wilkos every time. IMHO sorry
Just like trying new ideas!

Hmmm. I wonder why you choose to only reply to some one who has insulted you rather than some one who has said it as they see it ina non confrontational way.

To put a more positive spin on things, Wilko's upping their range and visibility may encourage more people to start brewing their own beer using kits who may then want to build up to AG and need to seek out grains, hops, different yeasts and other more specialist ingredients so will give more business to LHBS's in the long run

Hi Steve,

Like the new range at wilkos but any chance of a price match on geordie - on sale at morrisons for £7 - at wilko for £11 - would prefer a one stop shop rather than 2.

keep up the good work,

I know that the owners of one of my local HB shops are not concerned by Wilkinsons they reckon if anything it does them a favour,a lot of people are taking up brewing via Wilkinsons and become new customers for them eventually.
I buy my grain & hops from here http://www.homebrewkent.co.uk/

Just picked up the lager kit from wilko. Cheers Steve. I'll make it up as per instructions, and maybe make another for comparison. I like wilko for some things, but most of my stuff comes from my lhbs or the malt miller.

Although there's been a Wilkinson in Durham for some time, last time I looked there was no HB section.

Within literally the last few weeks, however, one has opened up in Washington Galleries, which is where we do our shopping every Saturday, and which has a decent sized HB section.

For odds and sods that I've run out of it'll be ideal, and is a no brainer compaired with waiting for something to be delivered from an online store -my nearest decent sized traditional HB shop is Hop and Grape, but that's too far away (last time I bought from H&G I used mail order, as the postage is cheaper than the petrol to Darlington & back).

And look on the bright side chaps, whilst your partner is looking at curtains or trying to decide which flavour of bleach to buy this week ,you can escape to a quiet corner of the store , compare kits and consider if you realy need a new hydrometer, and with a bit of practise you should be able to slip a wherry kit into the basket unerneath the bog roll unoticed
