(That's water to the rest of us!) Beer is about 95% water, so if you want to discuss water treatment, filtering etc this is the place to do it!

info from London water companies, Treatment, Grahams Widget

Hello,
My water company in Harrow is Veola Central. I'm trying to calculate the salts to add to my 35 litres liquor using the CRS / none boil method! I'm looking into using Graham's water widget calculator thingy for my next ale, an ultra hoppy pale dry American style ale.

http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/water/water.html

However, although my water company supply hardness, 293 CaCo3mg/ L and alkalinity 250 HCO3- mg/L and sodium mean value 35.5, calcium 177mg/L

Sulphate, magnesium and chloride values are not supplied. Does anyone know where I can find these values? I'm probably thinking way too much about it and should just chuck some gypsum and epsom salts in to my 35 litre liquor volume!

Joe

i have a copy of the water report you need as i'm in ruislip gardens and supplyed the same water. if you can pm me your email i'll attatch the report and send it to you. i would also get yourself a salifert kit and test the alkalinity yourself as it will change from brew to brew and you'll need an acurate figure to use crs to reduce it.

Hi Rossi74,
If you have the magnesium figure could you please tell us what it is?
I am in Watford with veolia too and I just need the magnesium value to complete the set.

For the record I usually get around 270 hco3 and 90 ca with my salifert testing, the latest report states 31 na, 54 so4 and 52 cl.

Thanks, Pat.
