new keggerator - but no gas

Post by mb » Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:02 pm

so i spent the weekend turning a norfrost mini-freezer into a 2 cornie keggerator: built a collar which fits nicely, taps mounted, stc-1000 in place holding a good temperature, two previously naturally carbonated kegs now nicely chilled, but i haven't had a beer yet because i can't get the regulator to work :(

it's a micromatic , this model http://www.micro-matic.co.uk/part-pid-090039.html

the instruction booklet is rubbish, but as far as i can tell the dial in the middle sets the outlet pressure, but whichever way i turn it, and whether the keg is pressurised or vented the dial on the outlet gauge is at 12 o'clock and doesn't budge. i expected that for a vented keg it would be at zero and i could then turn the dial to the desired psi.

has anyone else got one of these? am i missing something obvious or have i got a duff regulator? i've turned the gas off at the cylinder now and the needles on both gauges haven't budged.

i've spent hours planning and building the bugger and i can't get any beer out of it! mightily frustrating.

the regulator sounds duff.. i use a welders reg for a primary, it has 2 dials, the first shows the bottle pressure and the second the pressure released and resisted thru the thing. so if open to the air and opened up gas should squirt out and the 2nd dial should waver over 0.. when connected to a closed vessel the 2nd dial should show the contained pressure

any overlooked blanking plugs in the regulator outlet?? as its for food use it may have that sort of thing to keep the inners sterile?

?? sorry?? but have you opened up the valve it looks like it has on the outlet??
ist update for months n months..

so turns out it was a problem with a knob, i.e. me being one.

the regs have a nut on the front and a ring behind it, i thought you turned the ring to adjust the pressure, but you turn the nut.

beer needs a few more days to carbonate properly, but after 5 odd years of brewing i can finally dispense professionally.

these little norfrosts are great if you're short on space, i've squeezed this one into what used to be the outdoor privy.
