Hi guys,
I bought some plastic containers from eBay with the intention of storing my speciality grains in, now the only problem is they have had BBQ sauce in and still really smell. Will this transfer to the grain? Will it carry through to the beer? (mmm BBQ beer!) Or is there a way of removing the smell? I have quite a few of these 20+ so really want to find a way of using hem!
Cheers
J

Isn't a solution of Bi-carbonate of soda supposed to neutralise odours?

+1 for bicarb..works a treat on sick odours, should have no trouble with barbecue sauce.

Weak bleach solution would be another option, use sod. met to neuturalise the beach, bicarb is very good though.

Yes the odours will be absorbed by the grain so you should get them squeeky clean. Do they have lids that seal, as this can help keep the grain from absorbing any other odours where you store them?

Why not line them with some large plastic bags, if you're worried.
I use large plastic rat bait boxes (well washed, of course) to store my grains but always use a liner.

Bi carb is good for cleaning the odours from a plastic fridge lining so should work on other plastic.
I've got an ex chutney barrell to give this treatment to but I have noticed that left open to air makes the smell less pungent.
