Hop Back Mild

I'm thinking of doing the Hop Back Mild recipe as in Wheeler's BYOBRAAH, but I want to convert it to a mini-mash recipe. Wheeler lists it as, for 25 litres:

Maris Otter pale malt 3,200g
Crystal malt 180g
Chocolate malt 105g
Roast barley 100g

Challenger 45g @ start
East Kent Goldings 10g for last 15 minutes

I'm planning to divide the above by 5 to get the required quantites for a 5 litre mini-mash, but when I've entered the quantities into various online recipe calculation thingies the colour seems way off (as it does with the full version). Wheeler claims it should be 90 EBC whereas the above seems to achieve around 50 EBC or so. By increasing the chocolate malt and roast barley I can get it to 90 EBC but I'm not entirely sure what the repercussions of this will be.

Was the above ever supposed to be 90 EBC and if so, how was it achieved? :?

90 EBC is VERY VERY dark. Somehow I doubt that's true. To be honest 50EBC sounds more accurate for a mild. There are a few Real Ale Almanac recipes where I have serious doubts about the colour ratings given.

Thanks guys.

I was thinking 50 EBC or so would be fairly dark but just wanted to check. Some of the mild recipies in BYOBRAAH go up to 120-130 EBC!
