Kaixin Pumps
Re: Kaixin Pumps
At first glance these pumps seemed impressive, and they are if you are pumping from one vessel to another and the one i had deals with temperature well. However sticking a plate chiller or Herms recirculation in and they are poo.
Re: Kaixin Pumps
Flow rate seems fine until you stick the smallest bit of resistance in front of them. I was getting 17.5litre per min introduce a Herms recirculation coil I was getting 4, my solar pump has more balls
I bought two of these pumps so am going to try the other tomorrow

Re: Kaixin Pumps
Interesting. Could be that the magnetic coupling isn't that powerful so it "slips" with resistance. I'm waiting for a few more bits then I'm going to plug mine in and give it a spin.
Re: Kaixin Pumps
I suspect whats happened is that they have improved the clearence of the rotor rather than imporved the material of the rotor. I.E. it allowed to expand rather than a decent material that doesn't expand.
So the net result is that its got a really bad leak rate round the rotor. so it can't handle the back pressure
The acid test is to see what wolfy says. If he didn't have any trouble pumping though a plate chiller with the original pump..........

Re: Kaixin Pumps
I know this might be a bit of a DIY fix
but you could maybe put an insert in? to reduce the clearance between the casing and the rotor. Not too much obviously, I haven't opened mine up yet but it could be worth a go.

Re: Kaixin Pumps
Guys, help me out a little?? I went to the website and it list US$32 for the pump and $28 for the shipping, which brings it to US$60 incl. shipping. From what I read from u guys needing to pay more to the UPS guy when it arrives, should I expect the same after paying $60 incl shipping?

Re: Kaixin Pumps
Depends on the customs arrangement in Singapore I suppose!
I would imagine some duty/tax etc is going to be chargeable but I couldn't hazard a gues at how much.
I left the ticket at home so can't ring UPS today - will do it on Monday.
Dean.

Re: Kaixin Pumps
60 dollars is about £38 so the charge should be just under £8 plus a similar amount for the handling charge. What they actually charge will probably be a different amount all together
Re: Kaixin Pumps
With a larger capacity I was looking for a faster flow than the brown solar. This could have been the answer and based on Wolfy speed test saves about 33% of time. However I am concerned by the poor temp performance. I simply sanitise currently at high temp recicukating during the boil so it can be used to send wort to FV's.
On the brown pumps sticking I am sure this is because of the position in systems. To avoid air locks nearly everybody has the pump at the bottom of the recirculation loop. Hot break will collect therefore at that point and has been known to cease the rotor. It's fairly easy to get going again if you can get the wort moving through the pump chamber again. To sort this it would be better not to have the pump right at the bottom at the early stages of the boil.
Also, do not get any hops in your recirculation tube that may fall down into the pump. Absolutely stuck in that case and have to disconnect and unscrew. Maybe if you use hop pellets the gunge may get through the hop stopper and settle in the chamber like hot break?
I've never found it ceases just because of the boiling temperature but maybe I have been lucky.
So for now will stick with the solar and watch further for experiences with the kaixin higher temp pump

Re: Kaixin Pumps
I notice on their web site they now do a high temp pump up to 140 deg: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 24722.html. This may be the answer.
Re: Kaixin Pumps
just to let you know I recieved my pump a few weeks ago sent via dhl so I could track it, apart from the local agents not bothering to call me to tell me it has arrived( dhl use another firm here in corfu who dont deliver to your door)
anyway I was not charged any brokerage or import taxes only what was originally payed via aliexpress website
so it seems up to the various couriers /tax men the only time I have had import duties to pay have been things from USA

Re: Kaixin Pumps
I've not measured the exact flow of the 'original' pump through my HERMS coil or plate chiller, but I've also not noticed any significant/visible drop in performance when pumping through them either.Highlander wrote:The acid test is to see what wolfy says. I'll be very interested to hear if other's have similar problems pumping through pressure, because I was just about to buy one of the high-temp ones myself ... might have to wait a bit.
