Re: Bad King John
No, but I want to ask if that's a Steely Dan reference.
Re: Bad King John
Pass on that OB.... My neff says I should brew a Bad King John as now is the time of year for darker ales.... Myself, I'll drink owt at anytime of year but as I love my very tall, dark tempered neff, I thought I'd try my arm and soothe his dark ale needs
Re: Bad King John
Hi all once again
As no one other than OB has posted a response and that was relating to Steely Dan (itself a curious name, supposedly relating to a steam powered pleasuring device as I recall), I thought I'd offer some more information in the hope that someone might signpost me to a possible answer to my original request.
The brewery that produces the said brew Bad King John, is Ridgeway Brewery located in South Stoke, Oxfordshire. It's an English stout of around 6%, it's reported to be more of a tendency of a dark ale rather than a stout, not too rich in body but and can be found on tap, cask and in bottles also.
Can anyone help......???? Please!!!!

Re: Bad King John
I have tried this beer a few times and it is very nice but I can't say I was thinking too hard about what was in it at the time so I can't help you with the recipe.
You could try emailing the brewer to see if they will give you any hints...

Re: Bad King John
I was misremembering the lyric anyway. Both kings mentioned in the song are described as good. Actually about Nixon and Kennedy. Anyway... whenever people rave about Freebird, I point them at Steely Dan's "Bodhisattva" and "Boston Rag" Not as tediously long and a couple of orders of magnitude better
