Corney Keg Clean
Corney Keg Clean
I've got a couple of Corney kegs that haven't been used for some time. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to give them a really good clean and sterilise. Are there any special brushes around or diy solutions?
Re: Corney Keg Clean
I've just filled a cornie that hasn't been used for over a year. I used soda crystals to clean the inside of the keg and a soda crystal solution to steep the poppets and valves. I then sanitised with a no-rinse solution of peracetic acid and then I was good to go.

That sounds like a good solution, literally! What kind of ratio crystals to water did you use? Also, how long did you steep for?

I ferment in my cornies, so they get plenty of mank stuck to the sides.
I half fill them with a soda crystal solution (about half a bag of crystals to half a cornie of hot water), then tip them upside down and leave them to soak for an hour or two (the weight of the water should seal the lid, but don't blame me if it leaks!), giving them a good shake 3 or 4 times to help dislodge the gunk. Rinse twice with cold water to remove any soda residue. They always come up sparkling clean after that.

I usually blast off most of the crud with the garden hose set to the strongest jet then a 20 minute soak in soda crystals. If I could be bothered the pressure washer in the garage would be even better. Be sure to rinse through the dip and gas tubes too.
