Well i'm gonna have a go at a town crier beer BUT with a couple of differences from the recipe Pie O Pie gave me (thanks PoP) due to the fact i couldn't get my hands on Progress hops and Nottingham yeast from my local HBS.

4.2 kg Maris Otter Pale
44 g British Crystal
12 g Fuggle (4.8%) - added during boil, boiled 60 min
12 g Goldings (5.0%) - added during boil, boiled 60 min
5 g Fuggle (4.8%) - added during boil, boiled 30 min
5 g Goldings (5.0%) - added during boil, boiled 30 min
10 g Challenger (7.5%) - added during boil, boiled 15 min
10 g Challenger (7.5%) - added during boil, boiled 2 min
Yeast : Gervin

unfortunately i still haven't got my digital camera back :(

I'm doing another brew next weekend though, so should have it back by then so you can see my part plastic and part shiny stainless brewery then :D

Mashing away nicely at 66 deg.

popping out to try and get a connector to fit my wort chiller pipe to my tap as the connector as the one i bought doesn't fit :(

Let us know how it works out. Will be interesting since it was a clone with little knowledge of the original :)

its boiling away nicely now. sparged 29 litres off!! the best i've had i think.

had one drama (dont i always!) Before i sparged i dropped the thermometer on the floor and it broke :( so went into the market and got another one, the mash time was therefore longer, it was up to 2hrs 15 mins.

I'm using finings for the first time with this brew, got them from the very local wine woman who has a few beer ingredients too, its a youngs finings. The label is a bit crap so cant see where i add them. I presume its during the fermentation!

yeah i managed to get a connector that fits onto the outside tap, so its outdoor cooling for me today! Its not a perfect fit, there is a little spray from the fitting but nothing much.

Once i get the equipment set up in the brewing shed, sorry i mean garden shed  then i'll get a seperate feed into there.

This is a surprisingly cock up free brew (only one so far)

Its going in my new shiny corni too :D

I've just cooled the wort down with my new very shiny stainless steel chiller :D - its amazing!! i used to have to wait hours for it to cool down (wrapping it with cold wet towels and hosing them periodically) but this beast has taken it from 77 deg to 34 deg in 13 minutes!!,

i'm actually finished brewing before the sun has gone down!

That is the best piece of kit i've bought, even better than the spinny sparger!!

i've amde a small amount of beer with the extra runnings from the sparge and messed about with the hops a bit just to see what its like.

This has been the best brew day so far, hope the beer actually turns out ok.

Thanks guys,

LTP :D :D :D

The beer wasn't that lively in the fermenter this morning so i checked the temp and it was 15 deg! i put the central heating on and now its gurgling away like my guts after a curry! fantastic!

I dont want to keep having to turn the heating on (when its cold) so is it worth investing in a heat belt or is there a better method you guys use?

I use an aquarium heater in the FV like a few others here, this thread might help

Well i cleared it, filled my corni keg with it and tasted it - i cant believe it, it actually tastes almost identical to Town Crier!! My brother is a town crier addict and he initially had doubts that i had brewed it myself and not bought one of the collapsable kegs! praise indeed!

Hats off to Pie O Pah for producing the recipe for this.

The colour is exactly the same - light and Golden! The hoppy aftertaste is identical to the original, the only difference is that mine is a slightly bit mellower on the original taste but once you've swigged it, the hop taste you get is exactly the same!
I cant thank you enough for this one POP, my favourite beer in my own keg at a fraction of the price i pay for it in the pub (2.30)

Its 4.8% ABV while Town Crier is 4.5% - i can put up with that!

I've decided to name it Town Liar from The Gardens Brewery :D
