Cornie questions

Post by prolix » Sun May 13, 2007 8:23 pm

Just tapped my first cornie and I had over gased it, can I shake it and release the gas to flatten it a bit?

What pressures do you guys use to gas and serve?

Also a bit mirky, I transferred it to a secondary to clear before racking but didn't use finings or gelatine hope it is just the bottom thats not clear.

Any suggestions on that?

I was disappointed with the brew in general after my other AGs so I went out to the pub and had some Abbot, I was no longer disappointed with my brew, though the Abbot was crystal clear and mine looks cloudy.

If I am too keen to taste, which I usually am, the first few pints do come out a bit cloudy. I generally pressurise to 25 psi for one day letting some out every so often to purge the air. I than let the pressure down to about 5 - 8 psi for serving. I did have my kegerator set at 12 Deg C but that was measured at the top and the bottom temp was about 7 Deg C. I now have the bottom temp set about 11 Deg C and this seems to aid the clarification in the cornie. I dont even bother with a secondary for my stouts they g straight into the cornie after 10 days in the fermenter. I normally end up with a very fine layer of sediment at the bottom when I have supped it all.
