only just picked up on this, but I have a strong dark one brewed about two years ago, I think I have a couple left. Is that allowed (i.e. brewed before the challenge was posted?) Its called Christmas Cranium Cracker
will pop one in the post if you can hold off the tasting til next week?

we should do a few comps running at the same time. I'll bagsy the extreme brewing range. madly over hopped ipa's, brews made with heather, spice or arsenic (not really arsenic)

Ah well, you seem like you are normal and not a poisoner so I'll take a chance

There are a couple on here who can vouch that I am real and not a psychopath. If you need it.

Have another one because you haven't won mate!

Thanks for the entries that I did receive. The entry volume was terribly low. Good job the tasting exercise is a really entertaining thing to go through, has made it all worth while and really enjoyable exercise.

if anyone wants direct notes not available below just send me a message

The task was to produce a dark malty beer suitable for winter drinking. Whilst I received a very enjoyable fruity amber ale it was far too pale to qualify for the description in hand.

Brodington sent a beer that was almost there. It had a great Christmas spice aroma which followed through with the taste. Dark copper/brown in colour white fluffy head. Low hop bitterness, some citrus sourness was detected. After consideration, overall I thought the use of spices was a bit on the heavy side.

djbadger/oxbrewer (so good they named him twice) sent a fortified wine I think! It was really grapey on the nose, deep red fruit aroma. Just like a christmas pudding steeped in sherry. A very strong beer he warned. Certainly was. Dark brown with a red hint, fluffy head. Aroma followed through in the taste. Strong but clean flavours. Dark fruit, a long peppery finish. I thought this was a very complex but balanced drink. I could see it being sipped slowly in front of a log fire.

Garysmiff - personally, something was not working in that one here. Roasty with a woody/tobacco aroma. Some blackcurrant on the taste I thought. Would have perhaps suited a porter contest.

barney - 58 was very nice indeed but see above comments.

So the winner by a clear margin was djbadger/oxnrewer who will be receiving the gift voucher
