Breferm Triple next

Discuss making up beer kits - the simplest way to brew.

Depends on the amount of yeast in each packet. For 18L of 1.060 you need 11g of yeast. That's what's in a packet of Safale/Nottingham. If the packet is smaller (5 or 6g) you need two.

i'll be able to let you know in a few months time :D :D

im going to do a batch run of a few of these and then forget about them, it seems as though the longer you leave them the better they get.....thats going to take some restraint though!

Because i have having problems sourcing some flip top bottles (grolsch types) i plan to bottle them in 500ml PET bottles. I am assuming that this will be ok.

cheers :D

Oh god, yes. Use 100% LME/DME, except for priming with candi sugar (if you want to try it that way). My last brewferm triple was OG: 1.072; FG: 1.017; 7% ABV

2xBrewferm Triple Kit 3kG
Munton Light Spray Malt 1000g
Whitelabs Trapist yeast
2xpkgs Brewferm yeast (Whitelabs was a bit old)
200g white Belgian candy sugar (priming)

PS: The Brupaks belgian ale yeast available at H&G is indeed the Brewferm yeast you get in these kits. Would be interesting to compare against the Fermentis SafBrew T-58

I use 500ml PET bottles for all my bottled beers - and they work perfectly! No bottle explosions - if the pressure builds up too much, I think they just split, though this hasn't happened yet! Just keep them in the dark and they are fine!

jaytee1 wrote:Hi, my next brew is going to be a brewferm triple and I am going to follow the usual brewing method, make a starter with LSM, boil the wort, aerate like make, pitch the yeast...

I have belgium dark candy to add to the mix where required and I plan to bottle and leave for 4 months.

I know that some of you brew this type of drink and I was just wondering if you could add any advice.

Cheers :D
Yeah, if you boil it you will completely kill off any flavouring and aroma hops which Brewferm have carefully added to the kit.

Why not just follow the instructions with the kit? (using spray malt instead of sugar, obviously).

Thanks in advance
I did the Ambiorix with 800g of light spray malt and 300g of glucose instead of the specified 1075g of sugar. It came out great.

I might use a little extra spray malt if I did it again but it doesn't really need it. I wouldn't use a dark spray malt - the kit already contains the right mix of flavourings for when you just add sugar so adding any extra flavour will probably over do things.

I brewed this up at the weekend (sat) along with some great eastern ale aswell and ive seen no sign of fermentation yet :-k theres no airlock activityand no real yeast head to speak of, do these breferm brews take a little longer to get going??

cheers

Hmm, normally the Brewferms I've done get going within 12 hours - in fact the Diablo I just did is almost fermented out after 36 hours - frightening how fast that one went. However, as long as you're seeing some bubbles on the wort surface then there's probably something going on. Maybe you're just fermenting a bit colder than me or something.

I had heard that they went off like a race horse, this is showing zero activity at the moment. The ambient temp in the room is 19 deg c, so i would have thought good enough..

I am thinking that either the yeast is knackered or im brewing it in a new fermenter and that has a leak somewhere round the lid.

Yeah, sounds like a good plan - it should certainly be going by now. If you can pop up a photo of the beer we might be able to say how it's doing.

both the breferm kits ive done have gone great guns and ive had no problems with either.

id say give it a stir, it certainly should be up and running now after 2 days and at 19deg. If the stir dont work, then id repitch it personally.
