Hey,
I've been out of brewing for about a year (injury, or just being lame really). I've made 5 AGs, but mostly following recipes from books, with little understanding of the impact of various grain types and hops. So, I was thinking to ramp up my beerducation, by making a split batch, 2 separate SMaSHs from the same mash (by using my HLT as a secondary boiler, if I can).
Looking for recommendations on which hops to use, and why, to make some basic, yet easily drinkable brews. Also, some tips on boil times, hop amounts, etc, for a split brew. I have the following hops available:
Saaz
Hallertauer Mittlefruh
Cascade
First Gold
Goldings
Nugget
Cascade
Amarillo
Cheers,
-Lee

I would suggest that all are worth a shot, if you calculate ibu's, then add plenty late, there's loads of options there.

no palate, no patience.

My regular so-easy-i-can-brew-it-with-my-eyes-shut beer is a First Gold SMaSH. 90 minute mash and a 60 minute boil, brewed to 1.040 with 100% Maris (I sometimes chuck 5% Torrified Wheat), then 0.7 grams per litre of First Gold at 60 and 10 minutes, and again at flame out. It's a nice light refreshing beer.

You could split wort for 2 SMASH brews,
a) using Saaz
b) Cascade. Mostly added late
Very different results from same wort.
What yeast(s) do you have?
Re: SMaSH suggestions, based on my hops
I might need to buy some yeasts, I've got a S04, S05, London Ale wyeast, Belgian Wheat wyeast.
I'm going to try to revive these, as most are about 1 yr old...hoping the dry is okay, but the liquid i'm going to step-up on stir plate. I've only got a 1ltr erlenmeyer, bit of a tangent but any recommendations for stepping up to revive the yeast?
Might just split one S04 (or maybe London Ale starter) between the 2 half-batches, in order to get only the hop profiles coming through...

If you want the hop profile to come through, go for splitting the S05
