Pilsner
Re: Pilsner
Great idea. Are we talking Bohemian Pilsner or American? Ever since Prague in May I've wanted to brew a nice pilsner an have had only tasted trashy american attempts. Even the Sharps Cornish Pilsner I had high hopes for is a let down.
I'd be very interested in a tried and tested Pilsner recipe.

Re: Pilsner
This one turned out good for me,
Steve's Sterling pilsner. three gallons, 1.055, 43 IBUs
6 1/4 lbs. pilsner malt
6 ozs. carapils malt
6 ozs. munich malt
3/4 oz. saaz @ 3% to FWH
1/3 oz sterling @ 6% plus
1/4 oz. herkules @ 15,7% for 45 minutes
pinch irish moss for 15 minute
3/8 oz. sterling for 5 minutes
WLP802
mash at 155 for 45 minutes
I lagered it for three months at 36f
Next time I brew it I'm thinking about using S-189

I'm gonna have to say bohemian, but it does have to be light as I want my wife to finally like one of my beers.Belter wrote:Great idea. Are we talking Bohemian Pilsner or American? Re: Pilsner
My Mrs was loving pilsner in Prague. she said after we left that that's what I should brew and she'd drink it. Then I brewed a pale ale and she loved it

Re: Pilsner
Here's what i just brewed, its the Bohemian Pilsner Recipe from Brewing Classic Styles. i up'ed the hops a bit from the recipe given below as typically additions are for pellets and im using hole flowers.
ABV 5.3%
OG 1.056
FG 1.016
40IBU
7 EBC
94% Pilsner Malt
6% Cara Pils
Mash at 67, boil for 90 min and hops as follows
60min 47g Saaz 3.5%AA
30min 57g Saaz 3.5%AA
10min 28g Saaz 3.5%AA
0min 28g Saaz 3.5%AA
Yeast WLP800, I pitched at 8deg held at 10deg for 8 days then ramped up to 16deg till it got down to 1.016, i then cooled to 2deg at approx 1 deg per day, and its been sitting at 2deg for the last 4 weeks, will keg in a weeks time.
reckon its a good one to start with and there is nothing to hide behind as also a good test of ur ability to brew.
