Favourite Cascade Recipe?
Favourite Cascade Recipe?
I need inspiration! I love cascade, and have brewed Mysterio's SNPA a number of times, which is cracking. Other than doing a SMASH what's the best thing to do with Cascade?

Re: Favourite Cascade Recipe?
You could try this. I loved it, massive amounts of Cascade but only 27 IBU's
Rhythm Of The Rain
27 litre brew length so will need scaling down.
5.250 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC) 89.7 %
0.400 kg Crystal Malt (140.0 EBC) 6.8 %
0.200 kg Torrified Wheat (3.0 EBC) 3.4 %
30.00 g Cascade [5.50 %] - Boil 90.0 min 16.5 IBUs
15.00 g Cascade [5.50 %] - Boil 20.0 min 4.7 IBUs
1.00 tsp Protafloc (Boil 15.0 mins) Fining
25.00 g Cascade [5.50 %] - Boil 15.0 min 6.4 IBUs
30.00 g Cascade [5.50 %] - Aroma Steep 30.0 min 0.0 IBUs
US 05 Yeast
40.00 g Cascade [5.50 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days 0.0 IBUs
Mash at 65 for 60 minutes
If I was to change anything I would boil for only 60 minutes so you might want to up the initial hops, this is because with this much hops it can get a bit grassy & vegetal. The hit from the Cascade is really special, a great Spring/Summer brew. Going over my tasting notes I have said that toning the crystal down a little would have given a better colour and make it slightly drier, maybe light crystal to the same quantity or reducing to say 300g.

Re: Favourite Cascade Recipe?
Several years ago I brewed a sweet stout with cascades just to see what would happen and it turned out pretty good.
I'm just here for the beer.

Re: Favourite Cascade Recipe?
You can use Cascade hops in any favorite recipes, and it'll come out with all the expected characteristics plus extra grapefruity and pine-resiny flavours and aromas.
One of my favorite recipes containing Cascades also happens to be one of the earliest: Anchor Liberty Ale, going back to 1975 even predates Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It's also considered the first post-prohibition American IPA, the first to dry-hop, and also happens to be a Single Malt and Single Hop (SMASH) recipe, so it could easily pass as a trendy ultra-modern recipe.
The recipe isn't any big secret, just 100% 2-row pale malt to 5.9% ABV, Cascade hops for early, late and dry hop additions to 46 IBU, fermented using Anchor Liberty's own yeast strain which is sold as White Labs WLP051 "California Ale V." This strain is different from the ubiquitous Chico/Sierra Nevada strain. This recipe would certainly be a good way to determine if you like Cascade hops, since there's nothing for them to hide behind.

Also the Epic Pale Ale is all cascade as well, and it was making waves in NZ and Australian for a few yrs.
